For every business, time management is essential. This is because the truth remains that every day, there are only 24 hours. We cannot have more and we cannot have less. That is why every minute counts.

So how do we manage time at work? How can we make each second count?

Delegation of work. Even the most efficient worker or the one who gets the employee of the month award 9 out of 10 times cannot do everything alone. They are not Superman or Spiderman who can save the world single-handedly. Accept the fact that even the most trusted guy in the workplace will need an extra helping hand. So it is necessary to delegate work or task. That is precisely the reason why each employee holds a specific position.

Set a time for checking your email. We have this common habit of clicking the mouse to check if something has arrived in our inbox. This is not effective. Aside from it distracting you from the task at hand, it will also cause you to waste a big chunk of your time. Think about all the minutes you have wasted for checking your inbox the entire day.

Avoid multi-tasking. Though many business owners would demand this from their employees, the truth is that not many of us have this gift. Not all of can juggle three or four tasks and do well at each and every one of these. The best thing to do is focus on one, then move on to the next without missing a minute.

Keep your workplace organized. Can you seriously work in a place where everything is just a mess? You have to avoid clutter in order that your mind will also be free from clutter. Oftentimes, it is the surroundings that have the greatest impact on one’s performance.
Your car can be your office. You may have some three hours free in the middle of the day. So instead of wasting this away lazing around, grab some paper work or your laptop and then get something done. So it is important to bring your office stuff and store it in your car.

Block websites that make your employees inefficient. Though Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites are a staple for most people today, this may also be the same reason they are ineffective. These sites may tend to distract your employees and so it would help to block them at work so they can focus on their tasks at hand.

Set deadlines. Nothing can prod more people to work much faster than having to beat a deadline. Just make sure it is reasonable.

Motivate your employees. Employees work because they love their jobs. But most importantly, they work because they need the compensation. With bills piling up and coming everyday, they definitely need rewards for their extra work. So when they go an extra mile, give them that reward.

Time management is something that nobody can perfect. However, it has to be practiced with utmost dedication so that the business will prosper.
